Managing Files in Shopify
Shopify's built-in file manager assigns a unique URL every time you upload a file. If you update your menu PDF, you have to re-map every single link across your storefront. By using Menu Links, you externalize your menu hosting, ensuring that one single link always serves the latest version.
Step 1: Save your Menu to Menu Links
- Sign up for Menu Links.
- Upload your menu PDF into the dashboard to generate your link.
- Copy the unique permanent link provided.
Step 2: Add to Shopify Main Navigation
- Log into your Shopify Admin dashboard.
- Go to Online Store > Navigation.
- Select your Main menu (or whichever menu you want to edit).
- Click Add menu item.
- In the Name field, type "Dine-In Menu" or "Menu".
- Click on the Link field. Instead of searching for a page, paste your Menu Links URL directly and select the URL that appears in the dropdown.
- Click Add, then Save menu.
Step 3: Link a Button in the Theme Editor
You might want a prominent button on your homepage banner linking to your menu.
- Go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize on your current theme.
- Click on the section containing your button (e.g., Image Banner, Rich Text).
- In the setting panel on the left/right, locate the Button link field.
- Paste your Menu Links URL into the box.
- Click Save in the top right corner.
Seamless Future Updates
When prices change or you introduce a new seasonal menu, you don't need to log into Shopify. Drag and drop your new PDF into the Menu Links dashboard, and your Shopify header and buttons will instantly point to the new file.
